The Stay MCP connector brings your subscription data directly into Claude. Instead of switching tabs, exporting CSVs, or copying numbers into your AI workflows, you can ask Claude questions about your subscribers, churn, revenue, and retention — and get answers grounded in your real data.
Follow the steps below to get started!
Before You Begin
You must have an active Stay account
You must have access to Claude:
either a Personal account (Free, Pro, or Max plan)
or through an Organization account (Team or Enterprise plan)
If you're on an Organization account, your account Owner may need to add Stay at the org level before you can connect
1. Find Your Stay MCP URL
To connect Stay to Claude, you'll need the Stay MCP URL:
Log in to the Stay AI merchant portal
Navigate to Account → Integrations
Click Connect Stay MCP on the Claude integration card
Instructions on how to connect the Stay MCP to your Claude account are also available on the integration instruction modal
Copy the Stay MCP URL from the field at the bottom of the modal — you'll paste this into Claude in the next step
2. Add Stay AI as a Connector in Claude
How you add Stay depends on whether you're using a personal Claude account or an organization account.
Personal Account (Free, Pro, or Max)
To connect Stay to your personal Claude account:
Open Claude and click Customize
Select Connectors
Click + → Add custom connector
Name the connector Stay (or Stay AI)
Paste the Stay MCP URL into the Remote MCP server URL field
Click Add
Back in the Connectors list, find Stay and click Connect — you'll be redirected to Stay to authorize the connection
📌 Note: Free users are limited to one custom connector at a time.
Organization Account (Team or Enterprise)
On Team or Enterprise plans, custom connectors may be restricted by your organization. If so, your account Owner will need to add Stay at the org level first.
Your Owner should:
Go to Organization Settings → Connectors
Click Add → hover over Custom → select Web
Paste the Stay MCP URL into the Remote MCP server URL field
Click Add — you'll be redirected to Stay to authorize the connection
Once Stay has been added at the org level, you can connect:
Open Claude and click Customize
Navigate to Connectors and find Stay in your Not connected list
Click Connect — you'll be redirected to Stay to authorize the connection
📌 Note: Not sure which account type you have? Check with your Claude admin, or look for an Organization Settings option in your Claude account menu.
3. Authorize the Connection
After clicking Add or Connect in Claude, you'll be redirected to Stay to authorize access:
Ensure you are authenticated into the Stay store through Shopify that you'd like connected to Claude
Review and approve the authorization request
You'll be redirected back to Claude once the connection is active
📌 Note: Only one store can be connected to your Claude account at a time. If you have access to multiple Stay stores, the last authenticated account will be the one connected to Claude, by default. To connect a different store, close the Authorization page, open the Stay app from the store's Shopify admin, and follow the connection steps again.
Your Stay data is now accessible to Claude through the MCP connector. Claude will only be able to read your subscription data. It cannot make changes to your subscriptions or settings.
✅ Best Practice: After authorizing, run a quick test query in Claude to confirm the connection is working.
For example: "What is my active subscriber count right now?"
4. Start Asking Claude About Your Subscriptions
Once connected, you can ask Claude questions about your Stay subscription data, beyond what's available in your Stay Analytics, in easy-to-understand language. No SQL, no dashboard navigation, no exports required.
✅ Best Practice: For the best results — especially with questions that involve multiple datapoints (such as churn analysis) — we strongly recommend selecting Opus 4.7 or Opus 4.8 as your model. These models handle deeper analysis more reliably. Other models will still work, but may return less accurate answers for more complex questions.
Here are some questions to get started:
What's my subscriber growth rate this quarter vs. last quarter? Write me a Slack summary I can share with my team.
What percentage of my January 2026 signup cohort is still active today?
What are my top cancel reasons from the past year? Draft me a retention flow offer targeting the most common one.
Looking at the past 6 months, which products have the highest churn rate? Write me a winback email sequence for subscribers who canceled those products in the last 30 days.
At which order point are my subscribers most likely to churn? Based on that, suggest where I should add an ExperienceEngine promotion.
Write me a monthly subscription health report using my actual data: active subscribers, MRR, churn rate, save rate, and top cancel reasons.
💡 Tip: The more specific your question, the more targeted Claude's answer will be. Try asking about a specific product, date range, or metric you're actively tracking. You can also follow up within the same conversation — ask Claude to refine an answer or break it down further.
The Stay MCP is also compatible with Claude's export skills so any answer Claude gives you can be saved as a file — no need to copy, paste, or manually format!
💡 Tip: To export an answer, just ask Claude to save it in the format you need — Excel, CSV, PDF, Word, PowerPoint, and more. For example: "Can you export this to Excel?" or "Can you turn this into a PowerPoint that I can present to my board?"
Troubleshooting
Claude isn't showing Stay as an available connector
If you're on a Team or Enterprise plan, your organization Owner may need to add Stay at the org level first. Ask your admin to follow the Organization Account steps above.
The authorization page is showing me a different store than the one I want to connect
Log into the Shopify store that you would like the Stay MCP to connect to Claude. From your Shopify store admin, open the Stay app, and follow the connection steps.
The authorization step isn't completing
Make sure you're logged in to the correct Stay account before authorizing. If the issue persists, try clearing your browser cache and repeating the connection steps.
If you continue to experience issues, please reach out to your CSM for further support.
I want to ask questions about a different store than the one I have connected
The Stay MCP supports one store per connection. To switch stores, you'll need to reconnect with the desired account:
Disconnect the Stay MCP from your Claude connectors.
Log into your desired Stay account via your Shopify store admin — this ensures the correct store is authorized.
Reconnect by following the setup steps again.
📌 Note: Make sure the desired Stay account is the last store you've opened from the Shopify store admin. The MCP will authorize whichever store was most recently authorized.
