Written by Karin Brashears

How to Set Up Your New Customer Portal

The new Customer Portal (currently in Beta) gives you full control over how your subscribers experience their account.

With drag-and-drop layout controls, customizable components, real-time previewing, and deep styling flexibility, you can design a portal that truly reflects your brand.

Why Upgrade to the New Portal?

The new Customer Portal isn’t just a redesign, it’s a fully modular system that lets you:

  • Control layout

  • Personalize subscriber messaging

  • Align visuals with your brand

  • Strategically guide subscriber behavior

  • Optimize for retention

You’re no longer locked into a fixed structure, you can build the experience that works best for your customers.

Want best practice recommendations for what to think about before you set up your customer portal? We have a guide for that!

Accessing the New Customer Portal

  1. Log into your Merchant Portal.

  2. In the left-hand navigation, click Customer Portal (Beta).

    • The Beta tag indicates you’re accessing the new, highly customizable version of the portal.

When you enter, you’ll see a default template pre-configured for you. This gives you a starting point, but everything can be customized.

The Power of the New Portal: Total Layout Flexibility

The biggest upgrade in the new Customer Portal is layout control.

You can drag and drop components into eight flexible layout zones, allowing you to control:

  • Component width

  • Component placement

  • Visual hierarchy

  • Overall customer experience

Example Layout Possibilities

You can create combinations like:

  • A 3/4 width Next Shipment banner with a quarter-width Punch Card

  • A full-width Punch Card at the bottom of the page

  • Product cards that take up the full width

  • Smaller components stacked alongside larger ones

There are no fixed layouts - you control how everything fits together.

Adding, Rearranging, and Removing Components

Drag & Drop Components

  • Click and drag any component into your desired zone.

  • Resize and reposition to match your preferred layout.

Remove Components

Don’t want certain functionality visible? Simply click the component and click the trash can. This allows you to design a portal experience that matches your retention strategy.

NOTE: If you'd like to re-add your component, expand the menu in the editor and navigate to the Widgets tab. Any widgets that were removed from your portal preview will be available, and can be dragged back into the preview.

Customizing Each Widget

To customize any component:

  1. Click directly on the widget.

  2. A configuration panel will appear.

  3. Open the "Copy" drop down and make desired changes

  4. See changes update in real time in the preview panel.

Previewing Your Portal

Before publishing, you can preview your portal in multiple ways.

Device Views

Switch between:

  • Desktop (full width)

  • Tablet (iPad width)

  • Mobile

This helps ensure your layout works across all screen sizes.

Subscription Status Preview

You can also preview the portal under different subscriber states:

  • Active

  • Active Gift

  • Prepaid

  • Calendar

  • Paused

  • Canceled

  • And more

This allows you to verify that messaging and components behave correctly for each scenario.

Banner Ad Display Logic

If you're using banner ads, here’s how display works:

  • A full-width banner component will display the desktop banner upload.

  • A banner placed in a smaller-width zone will display the mobile banner version.

Be sure to upload both desktop and mobile creative to ensure proper responsiveness.

NOTE: The banner ad upload function still remains in your legacy Customer Portal settings.

Finalizing Your Setup

Once you're satisfied with:

  • Layout

  • Components

  • Copy

  • Styling

  • Device previews

  • Status previews

You’re ready to launch your customized Customer Portal.
