We take your Shopify order data and pull the needed information to help you make informed decisions to power your business.

This guide will walk you through each section of the Summary Dashboard with explanations and definitions to help you better understand your subscription performance.

Quick Stats

The Quick Stats section sits at the top of the Summary dashboard and gives you an at-a-glance read on your subscription program's health for the selected date range, with any applicable product and segment filtering applied. Hover over the info icon on any card for its full definition and calculation.

  • Subscription Retention — the percentage of new and live (active + paused) subscriptions retained over the selected date range

    • Calculated as (Live Subscriptions at Start of Date + New Subscriptions in Date Range – Churned Subscriptions in Date Range) ÷ (Live Subscriptions at Start of Date + New Subscriptions in Date Range)

  • Avg Subscriber LTV — average lifetime subscription revenue per subscriber created in the selected date range

    • Calculated as Total Subscription Revenue by Subscribers Created in Date Range ÷ Total Subscribers Created in Date Range.

  • Total Subscription AOV — average order value across subscription orders placed in the selected date range

    • Calculated as Total Subscription Revenue in Date Range ÷ Total Subscription Orders Placed in Date Range.

  • Net New Subscriptions — the net change in subscriptions over the selected date range (new subscriptions minus churned); may be negative

    • Calculated as New Subscriptions Created in Date Range – Subscriptions Churned in Date Range.

Queued for the Next 30 Days

The Queued metrics shows queued subscription orders and revenue (MRR) scheduled to bill within the next 30 days, for the selected product and segment. Unlike the rest of the dashboard, this card always reflects the next 30 days from today and is not affected by the date range filter.

  • Queued Recurring Orders — The number of queued subscription orders scheduled to bill within the next 30 days.

  • Queued MRR — Queued revenue (MRR), the discounted line total of subscription orders scheduled to bill within the next 30 days.

Revenue Metric Summary Cards

Each revenue summary metric card gives you a quick snapshot of your overall subscription performance for the selected date range, compared against the prior comparable period. Please note that taxes and shipping are excluded from all revenue reporting on the dashboard.

  • Total Subscription Revenue — revenue generated across all subscription orders (checkout + recurring + add-on) in the date range

    • Subscription Orders — total subscription orders (checkout + recurring) generated in the date range

    • Average Subscription Revenue = Total Subscription Revenue ÷ Subscription Orders

  • Checkout Subscription Revenue — revenue generated from first orders of subscriptions created in the date range (the order placed at checkout), including one-time products part of the orders

    • Checkout Subscription Orders — total subscription checkout orders generated in the date range

    • Average Checkout Subscription Revenue = Checkout Subscription Revenue ÷ Checkout Subscription Orders

  • Recurring Subscription Revenue — revenue generated from recurring subscription orders in the date range (excludes one-time products add-ons)

    • Add-on Items — total number of add-on items added to a recurring subscription order in the date range

    • Average Add-on Value = Total Add-on Revenue ÷ Add-on Items

📌 Note: Every card shows a percentage change and comparison value against the prior comparable date range — for example, Total Subscription Revenue: $5,898.32, ▼42% (Compared to $10,336.77).

Revenue Reporting

Revenue Reporting displays the Revenue metric cards in a graph format. The dynamic graph gives you the flexibility to click between Revenue, Orders, and AOV, all on their on graphs. Each graph breaks down the revenue by Checkout Revenue, Recurring Revenue, and Add-On Revenue in each graph.

💡 Tip: Click the options on the top to view the Revenue Reporting graph segmented by Revenue, Orders, or AOV.

Subscription Timing

The Subscription Timing chart displays the current total number of live (active + paused) subscriptions and a percentage breakdown of which billing frequencies are most subscribed to. This circular chart shows you the total number of subscriptions plus a breakdown of the percentage and total count of subscriptions at each frequency.

Subscriber Reporting

The dynamic Subscriber Reporting graph breaks down both Subscriber sand Subscriptions total active/paused, new, and churned unique counts within the date range and display increment. The Y axis represents total values, and the X axis represents date.

Below the graph, the legend breakdown shows the count of New, Reactivated, and Churned subscribers for the period, along with the Total Active/Paused at End snapshot (e.g., Active: 87, Paused: 4).

📌 Note: The Display Increment selected at the top of the dashboard (day, week, month, year) is taken into account when calculating churned subscribers/subscriptions, and reactivated subscribers/subscriptions. The counts shown are unique. For example, if the display increment is by month, a subscription will only count as reactivated if their starting status is cancelled and ending status is reactivated, regardless of how many times the subscription reactivated and cancelled that month.

Existing subscribers who create new subscriptions (instead of reactivating their cancelled subscriptions) will count as reactivated subscribers.

Customer Portal Interactions

The Customer Portal Interactions section shows how subscribers are engaging with self-service actions inside their Customer Portal for the selected date range. Each metric also displays a percentage change compared to the prior comparable period.

  • Get It Now — total count of times customers used the "Get It Now" action in the customer portal

  • Reactivate — total count of times customers reactivated a cancelled subscription

  • Banner Ad Add-Ons — total count of times customers used the "Banner Ad Add-Ons" action in the customer portal

  • Gift Next Order — total count of times customers used the "Gift next order" action in the customer portal

  • Swaps — total count of times customers used the "Swap" action in the customer portal

  • Change Order Date — total count of times customers used the "Change order date" action in the customer portal

  • Skips — total count of times customers used the "Skip" action in the customer portal

  • Paused — total count of times customers paused an active subscription in the customer portal

  • Lost Subscriptions Due to Failed Payments — total count of subscriptions lost due to failed payments

  • Total One-time Add-to-cart Clicks — count of one-time purchase add-to-cart clicks on products where the Stay buy box is present; the count is unique per session and event

    • Calculated as Total Subscription Orders ÷ (Total Subscription Orders + Total One-time Orders)

  • Subscription Line Conversion Rate — conversion rate from subscription add-to-cart click to completed subscription line

    • Calculated as Total Subscription Order Lines ÷ Total Subscription ATC Clicks

  • Average Subscription Lines Per Order — the average number of subscription line items per order

    • Calculated as Total Subscription Order Lines ÷ Total Subscription Orders

📌 Note: Shopify identifies a browsing session when events are persisted in browser storage, which can persist across multiple visits or days; a session is reset only when Shopify determines a new session context, which may include cookie expiration, browser storage reset, certain navigation flows, privacy resets/consent changes, Shopify session regeneration.

Cohort Analysis

The Cohort Analysis graph displays subscription retention by cohort of when the subscription was created. Retention is defined by the subscription's active status.

Each row represents a cohort of subscriptions grouped by the month of the subscription's first order.

Each numbered column represents a month following that cohort's subscription creation. The percentages reflect the retention rate of that cohort in the corresponding month. For example, subscriptions created in June 2025 had a 76.42% retention rate at the end of their first month.

💡 Tip: Dive deeper into cohort analysis and churn risk analysis with the Churn Reporting Dashboard. You can learn more about it in our Churn Reporting Dashboard article.

Risk Analysis

The Risk Analysis graph shows a system-generated churn risk curve over time, based on trends in churn risk and cohort churn behavior.

Use the Category and Cohorts toggles to filter the graph — for example, viewing risk against a Baseline cohort by Total Orders risk type. The Risk Type options let you view probability of churn by Days, Lifetime Value, and Total Orders.

💡 Tip: For even more guidance on navigating the Risk Analysis graph, check out our Dashboards FAQ article.

Forecasting

The Forecasting graph is a system-generated, forward-looking report looking at the next 30, 60, or 90 days of expected orders and revenue. All revenue numbers are based on the subscription line item minus any applicable discount codes, taxes, and shipping.

  • Queued orders/revenue — looks at the upcoming selected time range and connects active and paused subscriptions to the days that align with their billing policies

  • Forecasted orders/revenue — uses machine learning to generate forecasted orders/revenue, factoring in upcoming subscription orders and insight into which days will have more orders and which days will have less

💡 Tip: Toggle between the Revenue and Orders views, and adjust the Date Range (e.g., 30 Days). EOM will display queued and forecasted orders/revenue from the current date to the end of the current month.
